In line with the Ministry of Agriculture's seed multiplication projects, the Johnsonville Women's Agriculture Group last week cultivated 4.8 hectares of Suakoko-8, Peri-Urban rice demonstration farm in the Township.
Peri-Urban is an urban development initiative that is sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture through its Technical Assistance Support Arm (TASMOA).
Speaking during the rice harvest, United States Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield reaffirmed her government's commitment to supporting the Ministry's Peri-Urban programs. “Your country is one of the most food insecure countries in Africa. In this direction we, the U.S. government are prepared to reinforce the notion that agriculture and food security are key areas that would transform your nation.” She stressed
According to Ambassador Greenfield, Liberia is endowed with rich, untapped farmland and abundant rainfall, which she noted, are basic ingredients for agriculture and good harvest.
“What's lacking are people like you, community members willing to acquire necessary skills and work hard to produce rice and other crops.
