An injection of Sh12 billion in the ailing Mwea Irrigation scheme will double rice output in a year.
Brokers and farmers who thrive on subletting their lands to unviable units will be phased out, according to the Kirinyaga East DC, Ms Kula Hache.
At the moment, the scheme grows rice once in a year owing to flood water restrictions.
The Government has been regulating channeling of water from main water sources fearing that they would dry up and leave other users without enough.
