Africa Rice Sector Update
CARD is a coalition of 32 Sub-Saharan African countries and 14 Development Partners. We are working together to double rice production in Africa by Year 2030.

Having become the second most important cereal crop, rice has attained socioeconomic significance for both the producers and consumers in the East African Community (EAC) region. Rice cultivation in Guinea has deep roots in the country’s agricultural history. Guinea is one of the regions of origin and expansion of Oryza glaberrima, the traditional African rice. Thus, since the 1960s and 1980s, rice has established itself as the main national food crop, becoming a central element of food security.
