Lagos, Nigeria – A research institution in Benin, which has developed rice varieties being cultivated on 700,000 hectares of land in Africa, has won a prestigious award for its feat. The Benin-based, AfricaRice Centre was awarded the 2010 South-South Cooperation Excellence Award for its NERICA rice varieties, which were recognized as an innovative development option from the South.
