The return of normalcy in Cote d’Ivoire after the recent political unrest is having a serious toll on businesses in Ghana.

Massive smuggling of general merchandise especially rice into Ghana has begun, triggering serious discomfort among rice importers in the country.

According to the President of the Ghana Rice Inter-Professional Bodies John Awuni, profit margins soared among member companies during the Ivorian crisis but there is now a sharp reversal of the situation as rice smugglers resume operations through the common border of the two countries.
