Video Conference Seminar on Rice Seed

“Quality Assurance in Rice Seed Production”

In response to the suggestion made during Nairobi Regional Workshop between 4th February and 6th February 2014, the CARD Secretariat in collaboration with its Technical Steering Committee Members (AfricaRice, FAO, IRRI, and JICA) conducted Video Conference Seminar on “Quality Assurance in Rice Seed Production” between 23rd April and 24th April 2014.

The seminars were conducted as part of ranged activities under Pilot Initiative for Improved Rice Seed Sector. The countries participating in this initiative, namely Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d”Ivoire, Ghana, Madagascar, Nigeria, Tanzania, Senegal, and Uganda, were connected via video conference system.

Objective:

  • To form a common understanding about the seed production/multiplication system
  • To Deepen the understanding of participants regarding issues of seed quality and technically sound solution

Expected outcome

With improved technical knowledge and understanding of the seed quality issue, participants in the seminar from the ten pilot countries in the seed initiative will be well prepared for the second Working Week on seeds and will incorporate what they learn in the seminar in the Rice Seed Development Strategy.
