Africa Rice Sector Update

CARD is a coalition of 37 Sub-Saharan African countries and 14 Development Partners.  We are working together to double rice production in Africa by Year 2030.

The Africa Food Systems Forum 2026 (AFSF26) was held in Kigali, Rwanda, from August 31 to September 4. The Africa Food Systems Forum is the continent’s most important annual convening, where heads of state meet broader stakeholders such as scientists, development partners (DPs) and private sectors, capital meets projects, and commitment becomes action. 👉 Click here to the full article

🌾 Two Decades of Transforming Rice Farming in Africa: The CARD story

AGRA celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Since CARD was established in 2008 by AGRA, JICA, and AUDA-NEPAD, CARD has worked together with AGRA to promote rice development in 37 African countries. 🌾 Workshop on Monitoring & Evaluation of NRDS-2 in Rwanda

Owing to a rapid growth in market demand, rice has displaced several traditional staple food crops in Rwanda.  Grown almost exclusively in marshlands, rice has also become a viable venue for poverty alleviation and economic development in the associated hillsides.  Government of Rwanda (GoR) has invested enormous resources in rehabilitating several potential marshlands and in setting up the rice value chain (including mills).  👉 Click here to the full article
