JICA Training and Dialogue Program: “Promotion of African Rice Development through Strengthening Coordination between CARD and CAADP for Sub-Saharan Countries”, Tsukuba, Japan, 25 August – 6 September 2013

Two-week training and dialogue program on “Promotion of African Rice Development through Strengthening Coordination between CARD and CAADP for Sub-Saharan Countries” was organized by JICA Tsukuba International Centre from 25 August to 6 September 2013, in partnership with CARD.  The program was participated by total 18 high rank officials from 16 CARD member countries, including Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture from Burkina Faso and Guinea, with specific objectives as below;

  1. To develop common understanding among the participants (officers in charge of CAADP) that CARD is taking a part of rice sector under the framework of CAADP, and the CARD Initiative contributes to implementation of CAADP process;
  2. To make common guideline (action points) as well as country specific action plans on how to strengthen alignment between CAADP and CARD;
  3. To learn Japanese Agricultural policy on rice sector as well as observe rice cultivation sites in Oogata Village, Akita Prefecture.
